IDNR accepting registration for Central Illinois Youth Goose Hunt

Canada goose(1000)

The upcoming Central Illinois Youth Goose Hunt will take place from Jan. 14-15, and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) is accepting registration for the lottery to determine participants, according to a release from the department.

The hunt will take place in Fulton County at private waterfowl hunting clubs in the Canton area. Those age 10 to 17 interested in participating should register by phone by Dec. 29, the release said. Following the registration period, the IDNR will conduct a lottery drawing on Jan. 2 to select the youth hunters who will participate. Those participating in the drawing for the first time this year will receive priority over those who have participated before. Youths selected for the 2018 Central Illinois Goose Hunt will receive notification via mail.

All those applying for the hunt must have a valid Illinois hunting or sportsman’s license, as well as a Harvest Information Program (HIP) registration number. Participants also must have a 20 gauge or larger shotgun and must be accompanied by a parent or guardian with a firearm owner’s identification card.

To register, call 217-785-8060.
