City of El Paso Parks & Recreation Committee met March 1.

Here is the minutes provided by the Committee:

Committee Members Present were: Rigsby, Steffen & Brucker.

Others present were: Derek Stoller & Colton Scott of the Parks & Recreation Department; David Fever, City Clerk; Sandee Kessinger, Administrative Assistant; Casey Jones, Maintenance Supervisor; Dave Ferrenburg & Mike Souhrada, EPG School District; Greg Mool, Mool Excavating; and Jim Lavendar.

Discussion of proposal for Press Box/Concession Stand-

General discussions were about: who does the maintenance on the fields, possibility of tournament teams from Bloomington/Normal using El Paso fields. Rigsby questioned the need for security and who would be responsible for that, school or city?

American Buildings and RP Lumber will donate materials and labor will be donated. The Athletic Boosters will be asked for some money to cover other costs. Greg Mool explained his estimate for excavating and still waiting for estimate from Dale Kleen for plumbing.

Rigsby wants input from the softball coaches as they were not represented and questioned who would run the concession stand. There may be a need to set up a schedule between the school and the Parks & Rec Dept. School Reps did advise that dugouts need to be redone.

Discussion and status of Parks & Recreation Programs and facilities-

Stoller stated that the youth basketball program was finished for the season and the Adult Basketball and Youth Baseball has begun. There was discussion on the Kiddie Pool and decided to add it to the agenda for the City Council.

Discussion of Recreation Department Facebook page-

Was decided to discuss this at the regular City Council meeting.

Meeting was adjourned at 10:50 am.
