Cost of college went up for all students at Carl Sandburg College

In-state tuition and fees rose 1.7 percent for 2017-18 at Carl Sandburg College, according to the latest disclosure from the U.S. Department of Education.

Illinois residents paid $6,770 to attend the two-year public institution this year $112 more than the $6,658 charged for 2016-17.

Non-residents paid 11.6 percent more than residents this year, or $7,554. Their price tag grew 3.1 percent from $7,330 in 2016-17.

About 96 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Illinois residents. About 1 percent are residents of other states and 3 percent are citizens of other countries.

Data shows 86 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 203 students received grants or scholarships totaling $1.45 million and 12 students took out student loans totaling more than $50,813.

Including all undergraduates, 1,560 students used grants or scholarships totaling $7.71 million. Another 310 took out $972,461 in federal student loans.
