Weaver praises Lady Eagles track and field team for its success on the track and in the classroom
State Sen. Chuck Weaver (R-Peoria) recognized some of his district's high school athletes.
“I get to recognize the Lady Eagles, the girls that just won the Tournament A High School Track Championship,” Weaver said during the May 29 House floor debate. “And there are some great stories in this bunch.”
Weaver talked about the team’s winning statistics for their three relays, which helped them break the state record of 102 points.
“This is a phenomenal group of athletes here, so would you give them a round of applause,” Weaver said.
The House floor was glad applaud the athletes, just as the Senate did earlier that day.
But those are not the only impressive numbers.
“I was saving the most important part for last," Weaver said.
He asked every team member who had a 4.0 grade-point average to raise their hands, and almost the entire team raised their hands.
“That’s what we are really proud of as well,” Weaver said.
