City of East Peoria issued the following announcement on June 19.
East Peoria residents who recycle can now pre-order the city’s new wheeled recycling toter.
East Peoria’s recycling program is voluntary. The only mandatory part of the program is the purchase of the new toter before July of 2019. The 96-gallon toters cost $60 and have bright blue lids to signal they contain material for recycling. When the toters come in, East Peoria Public Works employees will deliver them to the residents who placed pre-orders.
Pre-order the new recycling toter online. Those who have several garbage toters have the option of painting a toter lid blue, thus making it a recycling toter and eliminating the need to order one.
The new recycling toters will replace the 18-gallon red or blue recycling bins currently in use. Glass will also be accepted for recycling effective July 9, 2018.
Also changing is the frequency of recycling collection, which will go to every other week effective July 9, 2018. Residents will be notified when their recycling week is prior to July 9, 2018.
For now, residents should continue to use the red recycling bins. Once use of the new toters goes into effect, residents can use the red bins for storing their recycling material or keep them for personal use. Or, they can recycle the red bin by putting it in the new toter.
