City of Mason City Council met June 25.
Here is the minutes as provided by the council:
Call to order by Mayor Bruce Lowe.
Council members physically present were Aldermen Scott Francis, Gerald Mahin, Mike Kirby, John Dodson, and Jim Miller. Also present were Treasurer Michael R. Griffin, City Clerk Michele Whitehead, Superintendent Wayne Dixon, and Chief Adam Anderson, Ellen & Mike Eigenbrod, Juliana Manuel, Jill & Jay Douglas, Beth Ann Smith, Chad Williams, Greg & Jo Osborn, Jackie Willis. Alderman Mason was absent.
The Chairman declared quorum present.
Minutes of the June 11th, 2018 regular and executive Council meeting were approved as well as minutes from June 18th Police Committee meeting and June 20th Water/Sewer/Lights/Committee meetings.
Ellen Eigenbrod addressed the Council regarding a dumpster in a parking spot in the downtown area near where she is employed. She asked that perhaps in the future if the business owners could be contacted before a parking space is used to house a dumpster. The Council agreed to try and give notice to the business’s but stressed that the Council is encouraging building owners to keep their properties up and keep them in good condition, and if a dumpster is needed for a short time by someone trying to make improvements and it has to be placed in a parking spot that everyone should remember it is for a short time and it’s not a permanent situation.
Ellen also inquired about getting a handicap spot by the pharmacy. Superintendent Dixon replied that the road didn’t meet the specs to qualify putting a handicap spot there. The subject maybe pursued in the future.
Beth Ann Smith asked for Tonica Street to be closed in front of Smokey’s bar on July 21, 2018 from 4:00 P.M. to Midnight for a street dance. She also asked if liquor could be consumed on the street in the blocked in area. The Council gave permission for both.
Jackie Willis informed the Council that he had received an ordinance violation for not having a fence around his pool. He explained to the Council that he does have a fence around the top of the pool and a locking gate. The Council agreed that Jackie’s pool met requirements for safety and that it was ok.
Statements of General Concern
Chief Anderson gave a brief update on the Police department.
Alderman Miller informed the Council of a letter he received from Darrin LaHood’s office regarding Route 10 repairs. The letter stated that the repairs would not be addressed this year.
Passage of Ordinances and Resolutions
R18-55 Alderman Dodson moved, seconded by Alderman Mahin to approve the minutes from the May 14th, 2018 Council meeting, June 18th Police committee meeting and June 20th Water/sewer/lights committee meeting.

R18-56 Alderman Kirby moved, seconded by Alderman Francis to approve the street closure in front of Smokey’s Bar on Tonica Street for Saturday, July 21, 2018 form 4:00 p.m. to midnight.

R18-56 Alderman Kirby moved, seconded by Alderman Miller to approve open alcohol and consumption of alcohol on Tonica street for Sat, July 21, 4:00 p.m. to midnight within the closed off section of Tonica Street permitted for the street dance approved in R18-56.

R18-57 Alderman Dodson moved, seconded by Alderman Kirby to approve the expenditure of approximately $700-$800.00 for the video of roots in the sewer system.
