CANTON CITY: Power Surge Causes Water Problems

Poweroutage

Canton City issued the following announcement on Aug. 22.

On Sunday, August 19, the Canton Water Treatment Plant experienced an Ameren electrical outage that resulted in damage to some equipment. One of those was the Limeslaker, which feeds lime into the water as part of the treatment process. Because of this, residents in some parts of the city are noticing water that has a yellow or brown tint to it.

Water samples were taken immediately to PDC Laboratories in Peoria for testing, and those samples came back clear. Even though the water may appear to be not clear, it is safe to drink. No Boil Orders have been issued.

On Tuesday, the Limeslaker was repaired and water is being treated as the usual process. Water color will improve each day as the water is flushed throughout the entire system.
