Illini Central Community Unit School District 189 students suspended 37 times in a single school year

Illini Central Community Unit School District 189 reported 37 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 37 students during the year. That equates to 5.1 percent of the 724 students enrolled.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes three incidents. For three incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 34 out-of-school suspensions, including 14 elementary or middle schoolers and 20 high schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for violence without physical injury. The category includes 14 incidents. There were eight incidents of unspecified reasons. For 18 incidents, students were suspended for 3-5 days.
