South Pekin School District 137 students suspended 33 times in a single school year

South Pekin School District 137 reported 33 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 33 students during the year. That equates to 14.6 percent of the 226 students enrolled.

Of the 17 in-school suspensions, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 16 incidents. There were one incidents of violence without physical injury. For 15 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 16 out-of-school suspensions, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for violence without physical injury. The category includes 13 incidents. There were three incidents of unspecified reasons. For six incidents, students were suspended for 3-5 days.
