Retired East Peoria CHSD 309 employee Carol Pasteris saved $26,795 toward her pension over 10 years working for public schools, Illinois Teachers' Retirement Fund (TRS) records show.

Over 35 years of retirement, Pasteris would collect as much as $1.241 million, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Peoria Standard.

Pasteris, 60, who currently lives in Peoria Heights, earned $41,548 in her final year at East Peoria CHSD 309.

The projection assumes Pasteris will receive 46.3 percent of that total - $19,229 - in her first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After three years of retirement, Pasteris will have already received $59,435 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of her contributions to the state teachers' pension fund.

ISBE reported that 44.4 percent of East Peoria CHSD 309 graduates were deemed "college ready" last year.
