City of Chillicothe issued the following announcement on Nov. 15.
November 24th, is Shop Small Saturday! Around the country, this is a day meant to encourage people to patronize small retail and eating establishments throughout our communities. Small businesses are the backbone of our economy and there are many more small businesses than there are large companies; this is especially true here in Chillicothe. Yet, small businesses succeed with a smaller profit margin than large companies, and they need our support. It’s a great chance to support our local businesses and to get some Christmas shopping done at the same time! Get out there and Shop Small!
Yes, we are heading into the holiday season…. Thanksgiving is upon us; time to enjoy food and family, and to give thanks. And then comes Christmas; the season with a reason.
The Chillicothe Police Department is in the spirit again this year. Each year, they host a program called the “Cops and Kids Christmas” which is designed to help those families in our community who are in need. Anyone can write a letter and place it in the mailbox in front of the police department, email or call to let them know about a family who could use some extra help to supply presents to children. The entire program is supported by donations. After the families have been selected, the officers and their families go Christmas shopping. During a Saturday in December the officers go out together to distribute the gifts to the families. Merry Christmas!
If you would like to get involved, it’s not too late! But you’re running out of time! Packets are available on the web for those interested in running for a Council Alderman position. Contact the City Clerk and she can lead you through the process. It’s easier than you might think. You ask people in your Ward to sign a petition, and the required number of signatures is probably less than you would expect. The only other thing you would need to do is to fill out a two-page “Statement of Economic Interest” and turn it in at the County Courthouse. The deadline is November 26. Don’t be shy!
