Canton City issued the following announcement on Dec. 9.
Congratulations to Jan Purtle and John Green, winners of the 2018 Westside Wonderland holiday home decorating contest! Their home at 424 W. Chestnut Street was chosen because of its over the top decoration, which included everything from a trio of life-sized carolers on the porch, to charming fencing laden with lights and live evergreens, to Santa in his sleigh with a sackful of toys, to loads of bright and twinkling lights and decorations of all kinds. They even adorned a vacant home next door with a nativity scene to give it some holiday spirit.
The winning home was one of eight entered in the contest this year, and there were many other fabulous entries. Sincere thanks go to all who entered, and to all West-siders who decorated their homes.
Sponsored by Canton Main Street, the contest encourages homeowners on the west side of Canton to decorate their homes for the holidays. This is the fourth year for the contest, and it is timed to coincide with the Old Fashioned Christmas Walk, this year on December 7. During the Christmas Walk, the 40&8 Trolley will tour in a loop of the west side area, beginning at City Hall.
Everyone is encouraged to take a ride or stroll around West Chestnut and Elm, and Avenues C and D this holiday season to enjoy the wonderful decorations!
