A Peoria County judge has ordered Calvin L. Freeman, 35, to remain in custody while he awaits trial for allegedly shooting his girlfriend earlier this week. Freeman faces charges of Attempt First-Degree Murder, Aggravated Battery with a Firearm, Aggravated Domestic Battery, and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon.

Police responded to an area hospital on October 5 at approximately 4:50 a.m. after receiving a report of a woman with a gunshot wound to the base of her neck. The victim also suffered additional injuries, including a broken clavicle, fractured shoulder, lacerated lung, and broken ribs. She is reported to be in stable condition.

According to authorities, the victim was able to speak with detectives on October 7 and identified Freeman as the shooter. A search warrant executed at Freeman’s residence led to the recovery of a firearm. Freeman was arrested on October 8 and admitted to shooting the victim with the recovered weapon.

The investigation remains ongoing. The Peoria Police Department is asking anyone with information about the incident to contact them at 309-673-4521.
