CITY OF DELAVAN: The lose of a vital organization in Delavan

Organi

City of Delavan issued the following announcement on Jan. 7.

The future of Delavan Ambulance coverage area:

Unfortunately, the Delavan all-volunteer Ambulance Service, which began in 1976 and has continually responded to 200+ calls a year in the southern Tazewell County area will be forced to take a step back and become a NON-transport agency only. Due in part to declining volunteerism as a whole, the services membership has been continually dwindling over recent years. Losing 7 veteran Emergency Medical Technicians-Basic’s in 2018 alone, due to retirement, physical injury, and job changes. The decision has been regrettably made, to ONLY respond to 911 calls in the Delavan Fire Protection District coverage area, to provide treatment until another ambulance can provide transport to an area hospital. Advanced Medical Transport, from the Pekin and Peoria areas, has tentatively agreed to take over the primary role of ambulance transport for 180 days, until a permanent solution can be made. This could be taking effect as early as February 1st 2019. Please bear with us as we transition to this new role in community service.

Sean Bluhm, Delavan Ambulance Chief 2004 to present
