City of Canton Board of Fire and Police Commissioners met December 18. 

Here is the minutes as provided by the board:

A regular meeting of the Canton Fire and Police Commission was held on Tuesday, December 18, 2018. The meeting was called to order at 2:02 p.m. by Commissioner Mayall.


Present:   Commissioner Chad Mayall    Public Safety Director Dick Fairburn

                      Commissioner Greg Gossett

                      Commissioner Samantha Norton

Public Participation- none

A Motion was made by Commissioner Norton seconded by Commissioner Gossett to accept the Minutes of the November 13, 2018 regular meeting and the November Budget. All Ayes, motion carried.

Training certificates: No certificates were presented.

Old Business –

Probationary Employees: PS Director Fairburn reported that Officer Chris Carrier is doing really well and had a short field training program because of that fact. Two new firefighters, Jake Chenoweth and Logan Fults, will be added to the agenda next month.

Bills: A Motion was made by Commission Mayall seconded by Commissioner Norton to pay the following bills: To Campion, Barrow & Associates in the amount of $ 425.00 psychological testing for candidate Chenoweth, To Terrance McCann & Associates in the amounts of $ 150.00 and $300.00 for polygraphs for three firefighter candidates. There is also a credit of $25.00 from IPMA-HR for returned testing materials. All Ayes, Motion carried.

Testing Cycles: All testing cycles are completed for now, however the commission discussed the possibility of re-testing the Fire Initial soon, as that list is already nearly exhausted.

New Business : The Commissioners confirmed that offers have been accepted by Jacob Chenoweth and Logan Fults as probationary firefighters, with start dates of January 7, 2019. Both will have one week of orientation and then will report to Glenview for Officer Training School for 8-9 weeks.

Candidate #4 will complete his polygraph and background check, so that the commission will be a step ahead and ready for any fire position that may come about.

Having no other business, a Motion was made by Commissioner Mayall seconded by Commissioner Gossett to adjourn the meeting. All Ayes, motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 2:22 p.m.
