Former state school employee Meachem paid in $23K to teachers' pension fund, could collect $347K in retirement

Former state school employee Gloria Meachem, who retired in May 2016, saved $23,040 toward a pension over 12 years working for public schools, Teachers' Retirement System of the State of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Meachem would collect as much as $346,887, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Peoria Standard.

The projection assumes Meachem received $7,291 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 4 years of retirement, Meachem will have already received $30,503 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the teachers' pension fund.
