ILLINOIS STATE SENATE DISTRICT 53: Barickman co-sponsored River Conservancy update signed into law

Lawyer

Illinois State Senate District 53 issued the following announcement on Aug. 30.

River conservancy districts will now be able to update their official names to more accurately represent the purpose they have evolved to serve, thanks to legislation sponsored by State Sen. Jason Barickman (R-Bloomington) that was signed into law on August 23.

Many River Conservancy Districts have expanded and evolved but are still saddled with out-of-date names that no longer reflect their current makeup and usage. House Bill 2583 allows districts to change their names, including as part of the process of expanding the district.

"Many of these districts have expanded, including across county-lines, but their name doesn’t accurately describe their scope of work or territory of operation," said Senator Barickman. “This is a small change in statute, but one that will help with the missions of the various districts.”

The legislation was signed into law by Governor JB Pritzker on August 23rd.
