City of Canton Fire and Police Commission met Nov. 12.

Here is the minutes provided by the commission:

A regular meeting of the Canton Fire and Police Commission was held on Tuesday, November 12, 2019. The meeting was called to order at 1:17 p.m. by Commissioner Mayall.

Present: Commissioner Greg Gossett

Commissioner Chad Mayall

Public Safety Director Dick Fairburn

Absent: Commissioner Samantha Norton

Public Participation- none

Motion was made by Commissioner Gossett seconded by Commissioner Mayall to accept the

Minutes of the October 10, 2019 regular meeting. All Ayes, motions carried.

Motions were made by Commissioner Gossett seconded by Commissioner Mayall to accept the October budget. All Ayes, motions carried.

Training certificates: A 9 month review for Firefighter Fults and multiple training certificates were presented to the commission for review and file.

Old Business – none

Probationary Employees: No report except for Fults’ quarterly evaluation report.

Bills: Bills were presented as follows: to The Illinois Fire and Police Commissioners Association in the amount of 375.00 for advertising for annual dues, and to Chad Mayall in the amount of $893.85 for travel, lodging, meals, and conference fees for the fall IFPCA conference Motion was made by Commissioner Gossett seconded by Commissioner Mayall to pay the bills. All Ayes, Motion carried. An income of $15.00 was also accepted into the budget, this being the application fee for a PD Lateral candidate.

Testing Cycles: Regarding the PD Initial Hire list, background checks were performed on the top two candidates, and commissioners reviewed those results. A new lateral candidate has applied, and another lateral candidate is expected. Commissioners will wait to see if/when the second candidate applies and try to test both of them at the same time to reduce costs.

Regarding the Fire Lt. Promotional, the document to waive publication was given to PS Director Fairburn to deliver to the fire department for signatures. As soon as that is completed, Carol will distribute the introductory letter with reading study list. This time frame will result in final testing at the end of February.

New Business : 1. The Commission was advised that the applications for employment have to be edited to take out any requests for prior salary history, per the new state law.

2. The December meeting will be held in the second floor conference room, because the Director’s Room is booked all day for another purpose.

Having no other business, a Motion was made by Commissioner Mayall seconded by Commissioner Gossett to adjourn the meeting. All Ayes, motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 1:36 p.m.
