City of Canton Fire and Police Commission met December 17

City of Canton Fire and Police Commission met Dec. 17.

Here is the minutes provided by the commission:

Present: Commissioner Greg Gossett Commissioner Chad Mayall Commissioner Samantha Norton

Public Participation- none

Motion was made by Commissioner Gossett seconded by Commissioner Mayall to accept the Minutes of the November 12, 2019 regular meeting. All Ayes, motion carried. 

Motions were made by Commissioner Norton seconded by Commissioner Gossett to accept the November budget. All Ayes, motion carried.

Training certificates: Several were presented to the commissioners for review and then file.

Old Business – none

Probationary Employees: No report.

Bills: One bill was presented as follows: to IPMA-HR in the amount of $52.00 for written testing materials for the lateral police candidate. Motion was made by Commissioner May all seconded by Commissioner Norton to pay the bill. All Ayes, Motion carried.

Testing Cycles: Regarding the PD Initial Hire list - Having reviewed the background checks performed on the two candidates, the commissioners decided to pass on both of them. A Motion was made by Commissioner Mayall to pass on Candidate 1 and Candidate 2, and because of an expected PD vacancy coming in 2020, and because more than 50% of the current list is now exhausted, a proposal was made to begin a new round of Initial List testing. Seconded by Commissioner Norton. All Ayes, motion carried. 

Carol will send a blanket letter to the candidates on the current initial hiring list, and she will contact the couple of candidates that had incomplete applications in regard to the new testing. Advertising will begin in January with testing in March.

Regarding the Fire Lt. Promotional – The end of the 90 study days will be the end of February, and with Commissioner Gossett on vacation then, the commissioners will plan to test in the first week of March.

New Business :

Having no other business, a Motion was made by Commissioner Norton seconded by Commissioner Gossett to adjourn the meeting. All Ayes, motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 1:23 p.m.
