A Peoria Police Department spokesperson confirmed that credit card skimmers were found at a Peoria Circle K outlet.

Credit card skimming is a form of theft. The thief uses a small device to steal information off a credit card when a credit or debit card is swiped through a skimmer. The device captures and stores all the details stored in the card's magnetic stripe.

According to 25 News Week.com, police said the skimmer was found at the Circle K gas station in the 2200 block of Knoxville Avenue. They said a service technician found the skimming devices while making service checks on the gas pumps.

The skimmers were removed. No suspects have been charged.

Police said if you recently used a credit or debit card at this location to contact your bank or credit card company.

According to Pcmag.com, when you approach an ATM, you should check for obvious signs of tampering.

“Check at the top of the ATM, near the speakers, the side of the screen, the card reader itself, and the keyboard,” the website advised. “If something looks different, such as a different color or material, graphics that aren't aligned correctly, or anything else that doesn't look right, don't use that ATM. The same is true for credit card readers at the checkout line or at gas stations.”
