Chicago (46,977 cases) and Cook County (33,227 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 2,183, while Cook County recorded 1,597 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 959,175, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 40 to 49, with 22,293 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 58,693 were male and 62,645 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 3,099, while female deaths stood at 2,515.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 2,441 Asians, 2,441 whites, 1,646 African-Americans, 1,094 Hispanics, and 174 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
