Chicago (47,251 cases) and Cook County (33,462 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 2,218, while Cook County recorded 1,628 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 982,016, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 40 to 49, with 22,464 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 59,090 were male and 63,168 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 3,159, while female deaths stood at 2,571.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 2,502 Asians, 2,502 whites, 1,665 African-Americans, 1,122 Hispanics, and 178 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
