Chicago (47,551 cases) and Cook County (33,793 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 2,240, while Cook County recorded 1,640 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 1,000,919, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 40 to 49, with 22,650 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 59,678 were male and 63,761 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 3,188, while female deaths stood at 2,601.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 2,517 Asians, 2,517 whites, 1,676 African-Americans, 1,150 Hispanics, and 181 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
