Chicago (48,175 cases) and Cook County (34,252 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 2,271, while Cook County recorded 1,673 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 1,042,774, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 40 to 49, with 22,984 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 60,541 were male and 64,738 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 3,247, while female deaths stood at 2,651.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 2,573 Asians, 2,573 whites, 1,704 African-Americans, 1,168 Hispanics, and 180 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
