Chicago (48,363 cases) and Cook County (34,456 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 2,283, while Cook County recorded 1,676 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 1,058,873, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 40 to 49, with 23,063 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 60,818 were male and 65,090 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 3,259, while female deaths stood at 2,659.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 2,581 Asians, 2,581 whites, 1,708 African-Americans, 1,176 Hispanics, and 179 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
