Students in Peoria Public Schools have begun returning to school as part of a blended model this month.
The Journal Star reported fifth- and sixth-grade students returned the week of Nov. 2, while eighth-grade students came back this week. High school students, on the other hand, will not return until January, unless they are students who are in need of more attention or who aren’t doing well with online learning, Superintendent Sharon Desmoulin-Kherat said.
The Gilmore Foundation recently gave the school district a $200,000 gift that will be matched by Reditus Laboratories of Pekin for COVID-19 testing services that the school system will do for the students.
While the school district had initially planned to work on a blended model from the beginning, it opted to go virtual for the beginning of the year just a week before school began.
