City of East Peoria issued the following announcement on Dec. 5.
If you haven't done it yet, 11:59 p.m. TODAY, Dec. 6, is the deadline for entering the 2020 Christmas Splendor Contest. Show us your lights! Make your house or neighborhood shine! The contest, sponsored by the East Peoria Beautification Commission, is part of the East Peoria Festival of Lights.

In addition to the categories for Business/Church/School and Neighborhood, there are three homes categories:
Folepi Christmas Splendor - excessive use of outdoor lighting and decorations, the more the merrier.
Festive Inflatables - five or more inflatables on display.
Traditional - anything from simple to elegant.
Judging is Dec. 8 through10, and awards will be presented at the Tuesday, Dec. 15 East Peoria City Council meeting.
The first and second place winner in each category will receive Festival of Lights ornaments, and the Neighborhood division winner will receive a yard sign.
The contest is open to those whose property is in the East Peoria corporate city limit including those in the Sunnyland area of East Peoria. All entrants must have their outdoor holiday lights on between 5:30 and 9 p.m. on the judging nights. Contest displays must be visible from curbside. Those utilizing professional lighting services as well as 2019 Christmas Splendor contest winners are not eligible.
