City of Mason City Council Met Oct. 12.

Here is the minutes provided by the council:

Call to order by Mayor Bruce Lowe at approximately 7:00 P.M.

Council members physically present were Scott Francis, Gerald Mahin, Jim Miller, Danny Mason, Julie Mize, and Jim Miller. Treasurer Mike Griffin, Clerk Michele Whitehead, Superintendent Wayne Dixon, and Wendy Martin also attended the meeting. Alderman Snyder was absent.

The minutes of the September 28th Council meeting and the October accounts payable and September Treasurer’s report were approved.

Alderman Mason moved, seconded by Alderman Miller to approve the minutes, bills and treasurer’s report.

Ayes: Mason, Mahin, Francis, Miller, and Mize

Nays: none

Chairman declared motion carried

Due to a scheduling conflict with the American Legion, Clerk Whitehead asked that the October 26th meeting be moved to Tuesday, October 27th, 2020. The Council agreed.

Alderman Mason moved, seconded by Alderperson Mize to approve moving the Oct 26th regular Council meeting to Tues Oct 27th, 2020.

Ayes: Mason, Mahin, Francis, Miller, and Mize

Nays: none

Chairman declared motion carried

Alderman Francis informed the Council that the finance committee suggests a 3% raise for all non –union employees. The Council agreed.

Alderman Mason moved, seconded by Alderperson Mize to approve a 3% raise for non-union employees.

Ayes: Mason, Mahin, Francis, Miller, and Mize

Nays: none

Chairman declared motion carried

Glacier Sands would like a second lease extension for the rental of the civic center building. The contract stated they may request a 2nd extension.

Alderman Mason moved, seconded by Alderperson Mahin to approve a second lease extension for Glacier Sands for rental of the civic center building

Ayes: Mason, Mahin, Francis, Miller, and Mize

Nays: none

Chairman declared motion carried

R20-75

Alderman Mize moved, seconded by Alderman Mason to approve the estimate of funds of $279,253.12 to be drafted from the construction account for the CSO construction.

Ayes: Mason, Mahin, Francis, Miller, and Mize

Nays: none

Chairman declared motion carried

The SRO, school resource officer agreement is due to be renewed. This is an agreement between the school and the City regarding officer participation/involvement/and education to the students.

Alderman Mason moved, seconded by Alderman Francis to approve the School Resource Officer agreement between the City and the School.

Ayes: Mason, Mahin, Francis, Miller, and Mize

Nays: none

Chairman declared motion carried

The meeting recessed into Executive Session at 7:10 P.M. to discuss Personnel issues 5 ILCS ( C) ( 1) ( 2) PERSONNEL AT 7:10 p.m.

The regular meeting resumed at 7:18 P.M.

Alderman Francis moved, seconded by Alderman Miller to hire Tony McClure as a patrolman through the end of the year.

Ayes: Mason, Mahin, Francis, Miler, and Mize

Nays: None

Chairman declared motion carried.

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 7:22 P.M.
