City of Eureka City Council Met July 19.

The Eureka City Council convened in regular session at 7:30 p.m. Mayor Eric Lind called the meeting to order and after a moment of silence led The Pledge of Allegiance and then directed the City Clerk to call the roll. Present were Aldermen Chambliss, Germann, L. Klaus, Logan, Teegarden, Williams and Wilson. Alderman Peterson was absent. Also in attendance were Lynn Hinnen, Treasurer; Kim Jones, Deputy Police Chief; Brad Marshall, Water Plant Superintendent; Jason Royer; City Services Director Melissa Brown and Assistant Police Chief Kim Jones.
Moved by Germann, second by Wilson, to approve the minutes of the June 21, 2021, regular meeting of the City Council. Passed on roll call vote with Aldermen Germann, Wilson, Chambliss, L. Klaus, Logan, Teegarden and Williams and all voting Aye.
Moved by Teegarden, second by L. Klaus, to approve the Treasurer’s Report for the month ending June 30, 2021. Passed on roll call vote with Aldermen Teegarden, L. Klaus, Chambliss, Germann, Logan, Williams and Wilson all voting Aye.
The Mayor asked for public comments on any action to be taken on Agenda items. There were none.
Moved by Chambliss, second by Wilson, to approve and pay the bills as the City’s obligation in the amount of $80,944.39. Passed on roll call vote with Aldermen Chambliss, Wilson, Germann, L. Klaus, Logan, Teegarden and Williams all voting Aye.
Presentation of Proclamation 21-02, Special Recognition of Eureka Hornets 2A State Track Finals. The team placed second in the Finals. There were seven guys with their trophy and Coach Brett Charlton at this meeting. The Mayor read the Proclamation. Pictures were taken. The Mayor thanked the team and coach for attending our meeting.
State Representative Tom Bennett was in attendance. He thanked the Council and the City employees for their service. He gave us an update on things happening at the State at the end of the May session. He noted that schools will be open in the Fall after the COVID shutdown. There have been many scams on emails, phone, computers, etc. recently. He asked us to be aware of this. He stated that the license fees for trailers have been reduced. He warned us that energy bills will be rising.
Moved by Teegarden, second by Chambliss, to waive the bid process to allow for emergency repairs at the Well. Passed on roll call vote with Aldermen Teegarden, Chambliss, Germann, L. Klaus, Logan, Williams and Wilson all voting Aye.
Moved by Teegarden, second by Wilson, to proceed with repairs and replacement of water well as provided by Lane & Western not to exceed $100,000.00. Discussion was held. Passed on roll call vote with Aldermen Teegarden, Wilson Chambliss, Germann, L. Klaus, Logan and Williams all voting Aye.
Committee Reports:
Chairman Chambliss of the Budget Committee: No report
Chairman Chambliss of the Administration and Personnel Committee: No report
Chairman Teegarden of the Enterprise Committee: No report
Chairman Peterson of the Maintenance Committee: The sewer lining was started today. There is a sink hole on Dennis Drive today.
Chairman L. Klaus of the Public Safety Committee: All fire arms are compliant.
Chairman Germann of the Park and Recreation Committee: No report
Chairman Teegarden of the Economic Development & Tourism Committee: No report
Chairman Mayor Lind of the Liquor Committee: No report
New Business: Frank Kandel would like to get the 100th Anniversary of Maple Lawn Homes on our calendar. Events will be held next July. He will talk to Melissa about this.
