Illinois Central College issued the following announcement on Oct. 1
Illinois Central College is proud to name Dr. Kari Schimmel as its Associate Vice President of Institutional Effectiveness and Innovation. She will oversee the implementation of the college’s strategic plan, serve as a chief strategy advisor to ICC President Dr. Sheila Quirk-Bailey, and oversee the College’s efforts in research, grants, change, and project management.
“Dr. Schimmel is passionate about education and teaching and is a tireless advocate for ICC and community colleges. Her research interests center on the diverse needs of community college students, particularly first-generation and underrepresented groups. Dr. Schimmel will serve the College well in her new role,” said Dr. Quirk-Bailey.
Dr. Schimmel currently serves as the Dean of Arts and Behavioral Sciences at ICC. Prior to becoming Dean, Dr. Schimmel was a full-time faculty member in the communication discipline and served as the Director of Forensics at ICC for 12 years. She also serves on numerous committees, provides leadership on the Advising Redesign Team, and was a faculty negotiator on the IBB team.
Her teaching career began at Kishwaukee College, where she was awarded tenure before returning to Illinois Central College. Dr. Schimmel attended ICC as a student and earned her AA before matriculating to Northern Illinois University. There she earned three degrees: BA – Communication, Culture, & Advocacy; MA – Communication Theory; and most recently, Ed.D. – Community College Leadership.
