State Rep. Tim Butler (R-Springfield) congratulated Lincoln Community High basketball coach Neil Alexander on 900 career victories.

Alexander reached 900 with a 40-35 victory over Mattoon, the Herald Review reported. He is only the second coach in Illinois history to reach 900, the story said.
The Illinois Basketball Coaches Association described Alexander as "one of the most impactful people in Illinois in men's and women's basketball during the last 50 years," the Southern Illinoisan reported
He had 882 victories coming into the 2011-22 season, the story said.
Alexander began his coaching career at Joy-Westmer High School, then moved on to Monmouth-Yorkwood and Bushnell-Prairie City High Schools, the coaches association said in a news release. He became head coach at Lincoln High in 1990.
At Lincoln, his teams have had five 30-plus winning seasons, sixteen 20 plus winning seasons, reached the Sweet 16 five times, the Elite Eight four times and had a second place state tournament finish, according to the IBCA.
Neil has served as an IBCA president and is the recipient of the 2020 Chuck Rolinski Lifetime Achievement Award.
