Sen. Jason Barickman (R-Bloomington) is inviting residents and their families to attend the Illinois State Fair.
The Illinois State Fair began on Thursday with a preview night. The variety of entertainment options includes free entertainment stages, horse racing, a wine experience and more.
Barickman reminded residents about the fair in a Thursday Facebook post.
"The Illinois State Fair runs today through Aug. 21st," Barickman said.
Although the first State Fair was held in Springfield in 1853, it has a history that extends beyond the capital city. Throughout its lifetime, the State Fair has been held in a dozen cities across Illinois before finally settling down in Springfield.
The gates open at 7 p.m., and the fair's full schedule is available at www2.illinois.gov/statefair/info/schedules/Pages/default.aspx.
