State Rep. Ryan Spain (R-Peoria), who is seeking reelection in representing the 73rd Illinois House District, was recently endorsed by the Illinois Fraternal Order of Police.

Spain announced the backing from the organization in a Facebook post this week.

“Thank you to the Illinois Fraternal Order of Police for their support and endorsement in the General Election,” Spain said in the post. “Crime continues to spiral in Illinois while law enforcement recruitment suffers because of the misguided ‘anything but’ SAFE-T Act. Our top priority must be making Illinois a safe and affordable place to live. #RepealHB3653 #BackTheBlue #ILFOPendorsed”

Spain has represented the 73rd District since January 2017 after David Leitch retired, as stated on Spain’s website. In the June 28 primary, he ran unopposed for reelection.

In mid-June, Spain spoke out on the potential that the state has for economic leadership.

“Illinois can become a leader in economic opportunity but that means we have to implement policies that promote investment, encourage innovation, and make life affordable again for all our residents,” Spain said on Facebook, as reported by the Illinois Valley Times.

In May, Spain spoke about Democrats and campaign finance reform.

“Let’s just review the series of events that happened in the Illinois judiciary over the last couple of years,” Spain said April 8 on the House floor, reported by the Times. “In 2020 a sitting Supreme Court justice was not retained for the first time in recent memory, perhaps under the current composition of the court for the last 60 to 70 years. So, in response to that Democrat not being retained, what did the rest of the Democrat leaders do in this state? You went about redistricting the Supreme Court in the state of Illinois. Now here you are making further changes to rig the rules of the game and cheat the system so that it can benefit you in the next election.”
