America 250 Patriots Marker | Illinois DAR
Illinois DAR placed their first America 250 Patriots Marker and had an unusual experience we would like to share with you. When our marker was installed, it looked beautiful! The day we held our afternoon dedication was unusually bright and sunny and it was difficult to see, even with sunglasses. We took several photos and later, after reviewing our photos, it appeared that our marker was completely brown with no gold trim! Of course, this was concerning to State Regent Debra Coe so she revisited the marker to double-check its condition. Even in the rain, the marker was standing as beautifully as ever! The explanation is that it was an optical illusion, compliments of Mother Nature!
“Plaques are finished by sanding right to left (horizontal stroke). The optical illusion is caused by the direction and angle of the sun shining on the plaque reflecting off of the microscopic grooves created during the finishing process. The angle of the sun's rays may cause this illusion to appear for a while in the afternoon based on the positioning of the plaque relative to the direction of the sun.”
Best wishes to all as you place your America 250 Patriots markers!
