The Hanna City Village Council heard an update from Nathan Hendricks of Genesis Group Consulting about energy aggregation.
Trustees invited Hendricks to address the board during a recent meeting, streamed on YouTube, after the village received an inquiry from Good Energy and village officials wanted to hear his thoughts on the company’s proposal.
“I guess my concern would be what does that look like in June for everybody?” Hendricks said during the session. “We don't know what those rates were. Will they be pass-through rates? Meaning let's say you sign up now, then your residents take advantage of that penny, if Ameren, the village’s current supplier, doesn't change. If Ameren doesn’t change, there is going to be a pass-through rate and you will eat that cost.”
Genesis conducts advertising and informs groups on energy rates and green qualities, and Hendricks told officials that the village could accept the Good Energy offer and would see a savings of about $8 a month. He also noted that the company can’t predict the rates Ameren will charge in the coming year, which will change quarterly.
Moreover, Hendricks noted during the session that he tried to seek quotes from other suppliers for the village, but no company was willing to offer a rate because the numbers won’t be finalized for a couple of months.
While some neighboring municipalities are signing up with Good Energy, the board pondered their decision and decided to send a trustee to meet with the company and continue to determine if a deal would benefit the village and its residents.
