Q3 2022 Recap: 2 parolees from Tazewell County convicted of sex crimes set for release

There were two offenders convicted of sex crimes living in Tazewell County released on parole during the third quarter of 2022, according to Illinois Department of Corrections data obtained by the Peoria Standard.

The data shows both of the released offenders among the parolees were men. Of the parolees sentenced for sex crimes, one was a veteran, and the median age was 55. The younger parolee was a 45-year-old man sentenced in 1998, and the oldest was a 64-year-old man sentenced in 2007.

The offender who had been incarcerated the longest was Michael E. Diegel. He was convicted in 1998 when he was 20 years old. He is now 45.

Under state law, paroled offenders are still in legal custody of the IDOC, meaning they can be taken back to a correctional center at any time if the state has probable cause or a warrant.

The following table shows how many offenders convicted of sex crimes were paroled during the third quarter of 2022 in each Illinois county.
