Racial Justice and Equity Forum To Be Held November 28

The public is invited to attend a Community Forum at Neighborhood House at 5:30 p.m.

Peoria County – The Peoria City/County Joint Commission on Racial Justice and Equity (RJE) will host a Community Forum on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at Neighborhood House, 1020 S. Matthew, in Peoria. All residents of Peoria County — including individuals, families and representatives of neighborhood associations, places of worship and other community organizations — are invited to participate.

 This Community Forum will provide an opportunity for the public to share stories and relay concerns regarding racial justice and equity within the Commission’s eight areas of focus: Child & Youth Development, Economic Development & Jobs, Environment & Climate, Health & Human Services, Quality Housing, Information Technology, Justice, and Transportation & Mobility.

 RJE Commission members and partners will be on hand to listen and gather feedback to inform strategic plans and partnerships that advance racial justice and equity and seek to make Peoria a more livable and equitable community for all its residents. The media is encouraged to attend and report on the outcomes of this important community event.

 The Joint Commission on Racial Justice and Equity, established by the Peoria County Board and Peoria City Council, was launched in 2021 with the vision to “end racism in City and County government and to achieve racial equity and justice across our community.” Click here to learn more about the Commission and download its first Annual Report, which established a data-driven baseline for racial inequities in the City and County.
