City of Lewistown City Council met Oct. 10.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

The Lewistown City Council met in regular session in the council chambers. Mayor Douglas Lafary called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance.

Invocation: Mayor Lafary

ROLL CALL: PRESENT: Alderperson Sally Clark, Jim Long, Brad Ward, Kendall Miller, David Levingston, and Mayor Doug Lafary. Also present: City Clerk Cindy Goddard, City Treasurer Debby Brown, and Public Works Director Evinn Palmer.

ABSENT: Alderperson John Spotloe.

DECLARATION OF QUORUM by Mayor Doug Lafary

CLERKS REPORT/MINUTES: Cindy Goddard.

Alderperson Clark made a motion to approve the minutes of September 26, 2023, second by Alderperson Long, the motion carried all ayes.

Report- Nothing tonight.

TREASURER'S REPORT: Debbie Brown. Nothing tonight.

ATTORNEY'S REPORT: Attorney Nathan Collins. No attorney present.

ENGINEER'S REPORT: Keith Plavec. No Engineer present.

PUBLIC COMMENTS AND PETITIONS: No public comments.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Finance/Insurance/Zoning - Alderperson Clark: Nothing to report.

Sewer - Alderperson Spotloe: Absent.

Streets & Allies - Alderperson Levingston: Nothing to report.

Police/ESDA - Alderperson Ward: Nothing to report.

Water Alderperson Miller: Nothing.

Utilities/Publications - Alderperson Long: Nothing to report.

Public Buildings & Grounds - Alderperson Long: Nothing.

Tourism Alderman Miller: Scenic Drive was a big hit this weekend. The whole town was busy. At the VFW the American Legion will have a fish fry every 3rd Friday of the Month. Also, American Legion women will have desserts there to purchase.

Tax Increment Financing - Alderperson Spotloe: Absent.

Citizens Committee - Amanda Sutphen received information for the water grant. Josh Mercer contacted her about the housing grant being available again. She does not have a lot of time to work on grants for us right now. Someone else can take it over, no comments from Alderman.

Christmas Committee - Kenny Haacke absent.

WORKS DIRECTOR'S REPORT – Evinn Palmer Director is working on putting dirt back in from lead line locates. Still working on tearing house down on Main Street. End of month have a full-time employee is retiring. Will need to replace him in near future.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS:

1. Discuss/Act Upon the Police Department Applying for Grant for Body Cam and purchase a taser - Chief Ford wants to apply for the grant, motion by Alderperson Ward to allow Chief Ford apply for the grant for Body Cams and a taser, second by Alderperson Clark, roll call vote motion carried all ayes.

NEW BUSINESS:

1. Discuss/Act Upon Hiring for Water and Street Department - Alderperson Clark wants to know if one or two need to be hired. Evinn Palmer Public Works Director said depends on what the pay will be, if we can have one or two it depends on the budget. Finance meeting is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on October 24 prior to City Council meeting. Needs to be taken out of water budget since that is where it is taking out of now.

Alderperson Long said his neighbor has a complaint about the other neighbor burning that does not have water. Was told to call police or fire department. Also, a position for an event coordinator might need to be created for the city.

PRESENTATION OF BILLS: No bills at this time. City Clerk had been sick didn't get them done.

CLOSED SESSION: No closed session

ADJOURNMENT:

Alderperson Miller made a motion to adjourn at 6:54 p.m.; Seconded by Alderperson Ward motion carried all ayes.
