The Department of Public Works is prepared for more winter weather that is forecasted to impact our City this evening and overnight. Forecasted conditions call for snow accumulations between 2-4 inches, wind gusts up to 30 mph, and below-zero wind chills.
The City of Peoria Snowfighters spent today pretreating arterial streets, hills, and overpasses. Crews will begin 12-hour, around-the-clock operations tonight at 7 pm and will remain on 12-hour shifts until further notice. If necessary and only after 2 inches of snow have fallen, will crews enter residential areas.
“Depending on the total amount of snowfall and the winds, we anticipate blowing and drifting snow will be a factor with this winter storm,” Public Works Deputy Director Sie Maroon said. “Please continue to pay attention to changing road conditions and our plows on the roads.”
Remember, road conditions can change quickly, and slick spots may develop overnight and early tomorrow morning. Give yourself extra travel time and distance between other vehicles.
Drive slow and stay safe!
