On May 15, 2024, a Peoria County Judge approved the State's Petition to Transfer to Adult Court for a minor previously charged with Unlawful Use of Weapons. The minor, D’Berry M. Coleman, now 18 years old, will face charges as an adult for the same offense stemming from an incident that transpired in April, just three weeks shy of his 18th birthday. The State’s Petition to Detain the defendant was also granted, and Coleman will remain in custody until his trial.

The incident occurred around 10 am on April 9 when police officers observed Coleman streaming a live video on Instagram from the South end. During this live stream, Coleman showcased a gun equipped with a “switch” capable of converting it into a fully automatic weapon. Additionally, the firearm had an extended magazine. Upon seeing the officers, Coleman fled into a residence located in the 2100 block of W. Starr where he was subsequently apprehended. The gun seen in the live video was also recovered.

The investigation into this matter is still ongoing. The Peoria Police Department urges anyone with information regarding this incident to contact them at 309-673-4521.
