Attempted murder charge filed after stabbing incident in Peoria

May 21, 2024, Peoria, IL – Korie Neltner, 36, has been charged with Attempt First Degree Murder following an incident in which he allegedly sliced open his cousin's stomach from his groin to his sternum. The State’s Petition to Detain the defendant was granted, and he will remain in custody until trial. Neltner is also facing an Aggravated Battery charge in the case.

Around 9 pm on May 11, deputies were dispatched to the 3000 block of Lincoln Ave. in the south end for a stabbing victim. The incident occurred after Neltner arrived at the victim's house following an earlier argument between the two. According to reports, the victim believed Neltner wanted to fight but instead was attacked with a knife.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact the Peoria County Sheriff’s Department at 309-697-8515.
