FOIA Request Sent to City of Canton Regarding Unpaid Parking Violations on October 28, 2024

FOIA Request to City of Canton Regarding Unpaid Parking Violations on October 28, 2024.

As part of our ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at the Peoria Standard have submitted a request for records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140. The request was sent electronically to the City of Canton on October 28, 2024.

The records we have requested pertain specifically to unpaid parking violations within the city. We have asked for a complete list of all such violations that remain unpaid as of the date of our request. This list should include the name of each offender, their address, the amount due for each violation, the date each violation occurred, and the total amount due from each individual.

As a media organization, we are deeply involved in gathering and reporting news to the public. Access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.

Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional. We await response from the City of Canton regarding this matter and will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
