FOIA Request to City of Elmwood Regarding Building Permits on October 30, 2024.
In a bid to enhance transparency and accountability in local government affairs, we at Peoria Standard have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the City of Elmwood. The request, sent on October 30, 2024, seeks detailed information about residential and commercial building permits issued from January 1, 2023, up until the present day.
Specifically, we are seeking a list of all new residential and commercial building permits with details such as the type of permit, date issued, fee paid, requester's name, address and contractor's name. In addition to this, we are also requesting for an active list of all residential and commercial building permits along with their current status.
Our role as a media organization is to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs. Access to public records such as these is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
We believe that as a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we are eligible for a fee waiver. We await the City of Elmwood's response and cooperation in this matter.
