A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Carroll County Sheriff's Office in Illinois on January 7, 2025. The request was made by us at Peoria Standard, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
In our pursuit of transparency and accountability, we requested access to all arrest records from the year 2024. Specifically, we asked for a list that includes the following fields: Arrestee Name, Arrest Date, Arrestee Gender, Arrestee Race, Arrestee's Date of Birth, and Crime Committed.
As journalists who are committed to gathering and reporting news to the public, access to these public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. This includes holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
We believe that as media professionals involved in disseminating information to the public, we are eligible for a fee waiver under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act.
Our goal is always to provide our readers with comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs. Accessing these records will allow us to continue doing so with full transparency and accountability.
