Today, Michael J. Walder, aged 28, was formally charged in connection with a shooting incident that took place in Peoria's East Bluff neighborhood last week. The charges against him include Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon. Although the shooting resulted in no injuries, it did cause damage to a vehicle.

A judge is set to hear the State's Petition to Detain Walder on Monday. Until then, he will remain in custody.

The incident occurred around 10 p.m. on Friday, February 21. An officer was approached by the victim near the intersection of Prospect and Frye, who reported that his vehicle had been shot at, damaging its rear windshield. Surveillance footage helped officers identify a suspect vehicle linked to the shooting.

Upon interviewing the owner of this vehicle, she revealed that she had given Walder a ride on the night of the incident and confirmed that he fired several shots from her passenger window at another car.

Walder was taken into custody on Thursday and admitted to the shooting during questioning.

The investigation is still ongoing. Anyone with information related to this case is urged to contact the Peoria Police Department at 309-673-4521.
