On April 4, 2025, LaHood addressed the return of Pfc. Robert Lee Bryant to Bloomington, over 81 years after the soldier was killed in Italy during World War II. LaHood expressed appreciation for local police assistance in honoring Bryant's memory, stating "The remains of Pfc. Robert Lee Bryant, who was killed in Italy during WWII, were identified last year. After 81 years, it’s wonderful to welcome this fallen hero home to Bloomington. I appreciate @cityblmPD and @NormalPd for helping give Pfc. Bryant a proper homecoming."
Early that same day, LaHood met with Zack Oakley, Executive Director of Rockford Airport, to confer about facility upgrades and expansion. He remarked on the importance of the airport, noting "This morning, I met with the Rockford Airport’s Executive Director, Zack Oakley, to discuss their plans to upgrade and expand the facility. RFD is a major connection point for the Rockford area and I look forward to seeing their continued success and growth!"
Later, LaHood visited the Pecatonica American Legion and extended gratitude to Commander Marty Stoddard for the opportunity to discuss veteran contributions. He emphasized the role of Post 197 in supporting veterans, stating "It was great visiting the Pecatonica American Legion today! I want to thank Commander Marty Stoddard for inviting me to talk about the positive impact veterans and the Legion have on our community.
