Darin LaHood, who has been serving in the U.S. Congress representing Illinois' 16th district since 2015, recently made statements through social media addressing economic and welfare issues. LaHood, born in 1968 in Peoria, Illinois, holds a BA from Loras College and a JD from John Marshall Law School in Chicago.
On April 8, 2025, LaHood tweeted about the critical issue of affordable housing within his constituency. "The lack of affordable housing across #IL16 is stifling economic growth and stretching families’ budgets thin. I was proud to reintroduce the Affordable Housing Credit Improvement Act alongside @RepDelBene and a bipartisan group of colleagues to help tackle this crisis."
Later that day, LaHood addressed the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program, which has not been reauthorized by Congress since 2005. He chaired a Work & Welfare Subcommittee hearing. "Today, I chaired a @WaysandMeansGOP Work & Welfare Subcommittee hearing on the need for Congress to modernize TANF to protect against fraud and ensure the program is assisting vulnerable families and individuals in need."
On April 9, 2025, LaHood discussed the implications of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. He emphasized the necessity of extending these tax cuts. "The 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act created the best economy of my lifetime. If we let many of these tax cuts expire, hardworking Americans will face the consequences. @GOPMajorityWhip is right. Congress must extend these to allow American businesses to grow and invest and families."
