The City of Peoria will observe Arbor Day through its annual tree planting event, conducted in collaboration with the South-West Kiwanis Club of Peoria and the Peoria Park District. The ceremonial tree plantings will occur along the City’s riverfront, beginning at 10:30 am on Friday, April 25, at RiverFront Festival Park near the Gateway Building. Residents are invited to participate in the event.
This effort comes in light of Peoria's continuous acknowledgment by the Arbor Day Foundation for its commitment to urban forestry. For the 32nd consecutive year, Peoria has been designated a Tree City USA, joining over 3,400 communities in the United States meeting the standards of urban forestry management.
As part of its contribution to environmental sustainability, the City’s Forestry Division plants an average of 70-100 trees each year. These trees are strategically placed in locations such as City-owned lots, rights-of-way, boulevard areas, and downtown districts.
"Peoria earned the prestigious designation as a Tree City USA for the 32nd time," reflecting its lasting dedication to green initiatives.
