Darin LaHood, the representative for Illinois' 16th Congressional District, expressed pride in representing the legacy of Caterpillar in Peoria. He noted that the city remains home to the world's largest concentration of the company's employees. This statement was made in a Facebook post.

"Congratulations to Caterpillar on their 100th Anniversary," said LaHood, U.S. Representative, according to Facebook. "Caterpillar has played a critical role in building our nation's infrastructure and strengthening our communities. I am proud to represent their legacy in Peoria, which is still home to the largest concentration of Caterpillar employees in the world."

As part of its centennial celebration, Caterpillar Inc. has committed to investing $100 million over the next five years to develop a future workforce equipped with essential skills. According to Jim Umpleby, Chairman and CEO of Caterpillar, this commitment aims to create a world where technology and human creativity collaborate to strengthen the workforce. "Together, by empowering individuals with the skills and resources they need to thrive, we can make that world our reality," said Umpleby.

Caterpillar Tractor Company was founded in 1925 when Benjamin Holt and C.L. Best collaborated to develop steam- and gas-powered engines. Initially focused on agricultural equipment, the company expanded over time to include construction and mining machinery, off-highway diesel and natural gas engines, industrial gas turbines, and diesel-electric locomotives.

In celebration of its centennial anniversary, Caterpillar is releasing limited edition models featuring a custom "Centennial Grey" paint scheme that reflects the company’s original color. Each machine will include special markings commemorating the 100th anniversary along with a commemorative interior plate. These models will be available across North and South America, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia according to a company news release.

LaHood has represented Illinois in Congress since 2015. He first served in the 18th District until 2023 before representing the 16th District following redistricting. His political career includes four years in the Illinois State Senate from 2011 to 2015. LaHood also has extensive experience as a state and federal prosecutor, having worked for more than nine years including as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Las Vegas. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from Loras College and a Juris Doctor from the University of Illinois-Chicago John Marshall Law School. LaHood and his wife reside in Peoria according to his official biography.
