Restoration work focused on green infrastructure and native prairies will commence in various locations throughout the city this month. The planned activities include soil and plant material removal, soil amendments, and planting.
The initial phase will focus on the Warehouse District, targeting planter boxes situated in several key streets. The areas slated for attention include SW Washington Street, SW Adams Street, Oak Street, and State Street.
Additional restoration efforts are scheduled throughout the year across different city sites. These include W Northmoor Road, E Nebraska Avenue Bioswale, planter boxes along SW Adams Street, N University Street, the right-of-ways along S Western Avenue, and bioswales along N MacArthur Highway.
The project further encompasses efforts for the Combined Sewer Overflow Control Project Year 1 Area, with focus streets including NE Perry Avenue, NE Madison Avenue, and NE Monroe Street.
In terms of native prairies, restoration plans are set at the Public Works Facility and along Washington Street near the Bob Michel Bridge. These areas will be managed later in the year under stewardship programs.
Temporary parking restrictions and sidewalk closures are expected during the restoration work. Residents and visitors are advised to be attentive to these changes.
